Text: Jonn #2

"He was a student from Boston University who'd seen my big exhibition at the State Library and he wanted to interview me for one of his university projects. Besides having perfect teeth, he was absolutely gorgeous and well mannered too. I said I wanted to take his photograph, (it may have been a condition of the interview but I don't think it was), and we agreed to do partially naked photos. He went home and discussed with his friend what a partially naked photo might be. Was it partially dressed or fully nude without genitals? I told him he could keep on his underpants on, he didn't have to show me everything. Come to think of it, he never posted what he'd written about me."

MG2007 Poster

"The 2007 New Mardi Gras Poster Art was done in photoshop with some traditional painting in the background. Each character was created whole and complete so assortments of the 7 figures could be repositioned for different advertising requirements (i.e., the three female characters exclusively together for the Lesbian publications). Each figure was done so they could be printed life sized, and they were used as Standees during Fair Day 2007, and by Gaydar in 2008 for a UK Gay Day event.

I'd only been doing homoerotic art since September 2006, when I was fired from my job with a leading gaming company for being gay (within the first few weeks of the Howard Government "Work Choices"). The high profile assignment of the Mardi Gras poster art soon after this distressing time revitalized my spirit and faith that "coming out" artistically was the right thing to do.

It was an honour to do this job and be part of the official history of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras."
